Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan reached Kyiv on Monday, October 26, to hold talks with Ukrainian leadership on trade, security, and European Union integration. He traveled with a delegation that includes three members of his cabinet: Vladimir Bolea, the minister of infrastructure and regional development; Anatolie Nosatîi, the defence minister; and Dorin Junghietu, the energy minister.

The government outlined a specific agenda for the visit, which centers on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation. Tofan is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. These sessions are designed to address regional security concerns and the respective paths Moldova and Ukraine are taking toward the EU.

Energy policy forms a central part of the discussions. On October 12, Tofan stated that Moldova was evaluating the purchase of natural gas from Ukraine to satisfy domestic demand. He indicated that he would use this trip to negotiate those potential imports. This issue follows a meeting on October 14 between Tofan and Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, where both leaders reviewed winter preparations and shared challenges in the energy sector.

Beyond bilateral meetings, Tofan and Koretskyi will attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum. The event focuses on investment opportunities and the development of cross-border economic ties, topics that also appear on the prime ministers' bilateral agenda.

The visit occurs against a backdrop of regional displacement. Moldovan President Maia Sandu recently declared that her country is ready to accept another wave of refugees from Ukraine. She said this readiness applies if a severe humanitarian situation causes people to leave their homes in large numbers.

The Moldovan government released a statement confirming the itinerary and the presence of the cabinet ministers. European Pravda reported the details, citing the local outlet Newsmaker. The delegation's presence in Kyiv marks a high-level engagement aimed at resolving practical economic issues while aligning political strategies for European integration.
