Brewers beat Rays 10-1 to take 3-0 series lead
A record eight-run fifth inning and a dominant start by Robert Gasser put Milwaukee one win away from the championship.

Milwaukee Brewers players celebrated a 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Monday night. The win moved the Brewers within one game of their first World Series title. The game featured a historic offensive surge and a near-perfect pitching start from a rookie.
The Brewers scored eight runs in the fifth inning, a World Series record for two-out runs in a single frame. They collected 16 total hits against Tampa Bay’s pitching staff. This performance extended Milwaukee’s winning streak to eight games, tying the record for a single postseason. The Rays, who led the American League with 98 regular season wins, now trail 3-0 in the best-of-seven series.
Robert Gasser, a left-handed rookie, started for Milwaukee. He pitched one-hit ball and faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings. Gasser allowed only one run, a line drive single to Yandy Diaz in the first inning. He became the first left-handed starter to face the minimum through six innings of a World Series game since Sandy Koufax in 1965. He also became the first Milwaukee starter to reach the sixth inning during this postseason.
Jackson Chourio contributed four hits and a stolen base for the Brewers. He was 4 for 5 at the plate, including a double. At 22 years old, he became the second-youngest player with four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game, behind Ty Cobb in 1908. Brice Turang added a two-run single that sparked the fifth inning rally. William Contreras also went 3 for 5. Manager Pat Murphy, 67, credited Chourio’s focus for providing a big lift for the team.
Tampa Bay starter Freddy Peralta gave up five runs and seven hits in 4.2 innings. He was the American League Championship Series MVP earlier in the fall. Rays manager Kevin Cash said Peralta was out of sync and tried to power through inconsistencies. The Rays made uncharacteristic defensive and baserunning mistakes in the previous two games. They now face elimination after winning their last two postseasons in five or six games.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Griffin Jax will start for the Rays. The Brewers have not yet announced their starter. Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth inning for Milwaukee on Monday, allowing one run in his first appearance in 3.5 months. The stadium, which underwent renovations after Hurricane Milton damaged its roof in 2024, hosted a sellout crowd of 40,388.
The Brewers, who led the majors with 103 wins, beat the Padres in four games and the Dodgers in four to reach this stage. Tampa Bay has never won a World Series in its 29 seasons. The franchise, which moved from Seattle to Milwaukee in 1970, has been to the World Series only once before, losing in seven games to St. Louis in 1982.
