Jay-Z to perform at Super Bowl halftime in Inglewood

Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.

The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced on Monday night that the rapper is the featured performer. The show is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he asked for one specific thing when the league first worked with Roc Nation. He wanted Jay-Z to take the stage whenever the moment felt right. Jay-Z said in a statement that this marks thirty years of music and culture on a major stage. He described the run as a dream come true.

Roc Nation has advised on NFL entertainment presentations since 2019. At that time, Jay-Z told Goodell that if the deal was about him performing, they could end the conversation. Seven years later, he is ready to step into the spotlight.

The announcement follows days of speculation. Jay-Z recently performed at SoFi Stadium to close his 30th anniversary tour for the album Reasonable Doubt. That tour included sold-out shows in New York, London, and Paris.

During those recent concerts, Jay-Z brought out many guests. At SoFi Stadium, his daughter Blue Ivy played piano on two songs. Scarface, John Legend, and DJ Khaled joined him on the opening night. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Too $hort appeared during the Saturday finale. Earlier in the tour, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem, and Nas performed at Yankee Stadium.

Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has won 25 Grammy Awards and received 89 nominations. His catalog includes albums like The Blueprint and The Black Album. He is the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Roc Nation will executive produce the halftime show, with Hamish Hamilton serving as director.
