The Kansas City Chiefs lost their first game of the 2026 season on Sunday night in Seattle.
The Seahawks won 27 to 19 to halt the Chiefs' unbeaten start. Patrick Mahomes threw for 165 yards and one touchdown. That marked his season-low passing output. He has not thrown a touchdown pass in his final two games. The quarterback averaged 12.4 fantasy points per game over his last four outings.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards. He threw one touchdown and one interception. The interception came in the final seconds of the first half when Darnold threw into traffic in the end zone. It was his eighth interception in his previous five games. The Seahawks ran their defense with two deep safeties for much of the contest. This scheme limited running back Kenneth Walker III, who gained 36 yards on 14 carries. Walker was the first Super Bowl MVP to play against his former team in the following season.
Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the offense with 129 yards in the first half. That is the most by a Seahawks receiver in a single half since Tyler Lockett in 2020. Smith-Njigba now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He is the first player since 1966 to reach 850 yards and eight scores in a team's first seven games.
The Chiefs' receiving corps struggled against the Seattle secondary. With Rashee Rice out with a hamstring strain and Tyquan Thornton on injured reserve, five other receivers combined for just six catches and 39 yards. Those players were Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen, Justin Watson, Andrew Armstrong, and Jalen Royals. General Manager Brett Veach faces a decision on whether to trade for another receiver before the November 10 deadline.
The game capped a Sunday slate that featured wins for the Lions, Vikings, and Broncos. The Lions held the Packers to 17 points, forcing a turnover by Brian Branch. The Vikings stayed perfect, and the Broncos beat the Cardinals in Arizona. The Seahawks will host the Bears next Sunday at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Chiefs travel to Denver for the same matchup.
